SMU Geophysics Laboratory Research and Development Program

Scientists in the Geophysical Laboratory study both the seismic and infrasonic aspects of the verification of a Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. Our research efforts focus on discrimination of earthquakes and explosions and the creation of ground truth database development using seismic and acoustic data. Developmental work at SMU consists of seismic and acoustic array design and deployment including the TXAR (Texas), NVAR (Nevada) and CHNAR (Chulwon, S. Korea) seismo-acoustic arrays. The program is led by Drs. Eugene Herrin and Brian Stump.
